Substack needs more posts like this. Loaded with takeaways. That absurd retirement bonus and then the founder turning it down was a series of twists, even for Japan.

Thanks!

"(...) series of twists, even for Japan." Well put!

They ruined two weeks of mine. Never will get them back (-:

A great investment story to read, driven by two perennial key insights: margin of safety, and patience.

Thanks for sharing! :-)

although not pulling in much capital, there are many new entrants in the space to speed up japan reforms (verdad, horizon kinetics,...)

do you have opinions on which are best?

Not really.

I know horizon has an ETF focussing on owner operators. Haven't seen any engagement with Japanese companies.

What I have seen from verdad regarding Japan has been quantitive on the broader stock market. Never have come across a stock analysis on an individual company.

there is a mix of approaches...never do i see a prospective plan for a specific company since that is their loading period.

verdad looks at many factors in the (usually microcap) space that indicates capital reform is easy and\or imminent. horizon likely engages, as they only had ~2 dozen holdings. i ran across maybe 4 others since 2021, but very obscure\illiquid\limited access.
